This I Believe–Ryanne

Posted by jefferson8 on 17th January 2008

I believe that there is life after cancer because I am living proof of it. As I fell into being 8 months old I was diagnosed with a cancer called Wimbles Tumor. This type of cancer attacked one of my kidneys and therefore it would have to be removed. I was a small baby but I know that I was a strong one at that. My uncle, who is also a doctor, explained to my mother everything she needed to know about the cancer and what was going to be happening with the surgeries. My mother would tell me stories of how I was in the hospital for about a week and how all of the nurses seemed to love me. After the surgery I was left with one kidney, unlike other people who have two.

Shortly after the surgery I was put on a medicine called chemotherapy. This would kill of the bad cells in my body but it may also kill other cells. My father had bought a drug that would help me not get sicker when I got my treatments. These drugs were very expensive the cost about $200 just for about 10 pills. The chemo treatments were needed every week once a week. So my father and I had to travel to Chicago every Friday and back. The doctors told my mother that my hair may or may not fall out. I went through just about all of my chemo treatment and I still had my hair. It wasn’t until my last treatment that my hair began to fall out. One day my sister just walked up to my mother (she couldn’t have been any older than 2) and she gave her my braid.

Well I was left with a scare on my stomach, and a lot of kids wanted to know where it came from, how I got it, does it hurt. I would always reply as “Oh, I had cancer.” Sometimes kids wouldn’t want to talk to me because they thought that I still had it. Others for a while they would treat me like I was sick but after a while they would just forget about it and just be my friend again. I remember one time that I, my mother, and my older sister, were in the car and we began to talk about people in our family that have gotten sick. Like my grandmother or great auntie. The thing that struck me was that all throughout the conversation not one time did either one talk about me. It was like they didn’t even remember me. You would think that made me really mad but in fact it made me fill special. My family didn’t look at me the way some of the other kids did. No, I was just Ryanne.

The are some restrictions of having this cancer. Sometimes I have to watch what I eat and it probably isn’t the best for me if I smoke or drink, but to me I know that I always live with the risk of getting it again and if I do then I will die if they don’t find a match for me. I don’t really like to think about things like that but it’s just reality. It’s a harsh one but it’s there. I like to try my best and live life to my fullest. I live everyday like it was my last. I’m only 13 and I’m not ready to give up living. I have so much to do in life, I don’t want to go. All I know is that there is life before, during, and after cancer and it is one of the fullest lives you could ever live.

This I Believe–Ryan

Posted by jefferson8 on 17th January 2008

I believe that there are ghosts because when people die their spirit goes on living in the house.  The ghost is at my grandma house.  At my grandmas the ghost loves to mess with us.  The ghost opens and closes the doors and likes touching on people.  I think my grandma stays in a house on haunted hill. When I first came to visit my grandma in Tennessee everything was alright, until a week ago when something strange started to happen.  When I say something strange happened, I mean the doors were opening and closing, the ghost was walking around the house and going in and out rooms like he/she lived there.  It was so strange. I thought it was my cousin messing around with me but she wasn’t.  The worst part about it was the ghost was actually touching on us like he was trying to get attention from us. Here’s a reason that you should not go into one big haunted house on a hill.  All of this I’m telling you is true this really what happen.  The part I hate was when my family left me by myself.  It all started when my grandparents when out of town and then my dad started leaving me by myself. I was scared.  It was just me in that big house on haunted hill. I was even scared to move out of my seat.    In this haunted house I was in, it was me my grandparents my dad and my cousin and then my dad girlfriend move in after my dad friend brandy moved.  About two more weeks ago I notice the ghost was gone when my dad and his girlfriend went up stairs.  My dad and his girlfriend almost killed each other because they said they heard wings flapping behind the TV.  After that everything was going find. I was feeling find because it was all over the ghost must go back to heaven. So here I am telling you, never go in a haunted when it’s not that many people staying in there. I’m telling you this because I want you to survive.  That ghost could have done anything to us and we won’t even know.  But the weirdest part about it the ghost had wings and we never saw it again.  All this I’m telling you is a true story. This is why I believe in ghosts.

This I Believe–Miranda

Posted by jefferson8 on 17th January 2008

I believe that people have the rights to be were ever they want to be. Because it is their will to do whatever they want to do. President Bush said that America is a free country and we are the melting pot with different cultures and races. I think that people from other cultures and races should have all the rights to be wherever they want to be because we are a free country and people have the rights to do whatever they feel and put their mind to. They have the same rights to be happy like the people that were born and raised in the United States of America.

People come from other countries to make money so they can support their family that stayed back home so they won’t go without need of food and clothing. I believe that the immigrants that should not pay for something that they don’t do. With the people from other countries come here to work because they don’t get paid well they get less then minim wage and then they don’t have enough money to pay the bills. They also come here to buy stuff here and when they live to where ever they are from they take the entire stuff brand new. When they are enjoying their time working and making the right amount of money and next thing in pops immigration and they take all the foreign people.

I think that immigration is rude for what they do because do they know how much they hurt people because they say things or names about the race. With immigration I think you if you get deported you should be allowed back when you have all the paper work settled and have the right paper work filled out. It is so unfair how immigration treats people totally different because they are from a different country and them so unfairly.

With all that being said immigration is unfair to the people of other races just because of their races and that is called racisms. I possibly think that if all the illegal Immigrants should just stay where they are from and so they don’t get into any problems and so they won’t get discriminated just because of the race they are.  I think that if the the united states keeps on deporting immigrants the population of the cities and towns will go down each and every day .

This I Believe–Kevin

Posted by jefferson8 on 17th January 2008

I believe that our government is lying to us because they keep secrets and do not tell the truth about things that exist. Believe it or not, the government has lots of secrets that the government does not want to speak in public, facts, and others secrets that they keep from us. As you may listen you may not believe me, but that is ok. I believe that Area 51 does exist in Nevada, and aliens in Roswell. Speaking of Area 51 they don’t want witnesses that aliens do exist on Earth. What is area 51? Area 51, have the proof that they have dead alien bodies doing projects on them. In general, people think that area 51 does not truly exist and don’t believe that they have dead or alive aliens in Area 51. What is Area 51? Area 51 is the place was most aliens exist and made contact to people. I believe that they use people is used a projects because they use us for something really important them than to us. They are experimenting us if we could survive on mars or something. Stick to reality! We don’t know what’s up there on Mars. We never know if we could take a breath over there or get disease from the air that is poisonous gas. I mean, our technology, it’s not that too advance to save a human life form on mars. So, if you listen to me now, now is the time to take action! I believe think there is no nuclear bombs planted under our crops because during the cold war President J.F.K. competes with Russia because of the corruption happening all over the world. I personally believe that 30% true and 70% false that there is no such thing that have been a nuke bomb under our crops or corn fields.  I believe in my own opinion that government is still lying to us because they keep secrets and the truth about things that exist. People want to know the facts, the evidence, and the truth to uncover of what it really exist. But we will have nothing to prove that it really exists.

This I Believe–Karolyn

Posted by jefferson8 on 17th January 2008

Who do you believe in? I believe in myself because when you have a friend that you know you can trust and you are depending on that person that person sometimes doesn’t always help you with your problems.  I have put all my beliefs in some people , when I put my trust in people sometimes  they lie to me and don’t help me and that’s when I start thinking, is this really the person I can trust? Hoping this time they won’t lie to me. When I put my beliefs in myself it makes me feel good about myself.

When I do put my beliefs in people, I hope these people aren’t  going to lie to me.  Putting your trust into people is not always easy.  Most of the time most people want to lie to you because they don’t know how to treat others.  Maybe if people don’t lie to others, and believed in themselves, they wouldn’t have a reason to lie to others.

Who do you believe in?  I believe in myself because I am a trustworthy person.  Not lying isn’t always easy because sometimes telling the  truth to a friend  can hurt  their feelings.   I have developed putting trust in my friends, sometimes I would catch them in the middle of the act of lying and sometimes they would get away with it without me knowing the truth.

When I try to lie to my Mom I start talking, she questioning me, I get nervous.  Somehow the truth slips out really fast when I’m not wanting to tell the truth.  Telling the truth is worth getting punished for because if you lie all the time it won’t get you any where.  And it lacks you putting faith into you and your loved ones.

I believe in myself and I have faith in friends and family to tell the truth.  I  THINK YOU SHOULD ONLY PUT YOUR TRUST IN the PEOPLE  that  you  KNOW YOU CAN TRUST.

This I Believe–Kara

Posted by jefferson8 on 17th January 2008

I believe that any person with a disability shouldn’t be treated any differently from a person without a one. Because it’s not their fault they have that disability. And it’s not fair to anybody that they’re treated differently. People are treated differently at school with teachers and classmates and also at home with parents and siblings. And no matter what age they are people with disabilities have day to day struggles that any person without a disability never will understand. I don’t have a disability but my nine year old brother Justin has ADHD which is a learning disability that causes him to have trouble focusing in school and other things. Every morning he takes medicine with his breakfast that helps him pay attention in school the whole school day through. But by the time he gets home from school his medicine from the morning has began to wear off. That can be a problem because he is in 4th grade and he gets a ton of homework and he can’t focus on any of it once he gets home.  So it takes him forever to finish his homework, especially in math. This frustrates him a lot because one of his favorite things to do is play video games; we just got a Nintendo Wii for Christmas and he loves it but my parents tell him that there is no Wii until he finishes all his homework. He complains everyday how it’s not fair when my other brother who is younger with no homework gets to play while he works. Not only does he get special attention at home but at school to, when the other kids have 20 spelling words he only gets 10, he also gets extra attention in math and reading because he moves slower than some of the other kids and has trouble focusing. Almost everyday my brothers and I fight over how it’s not fair that Justin gets special attention from my parents. It doesn’t seem fair that if we need help with our homework my mom is too busy helping Justin with his, and then we end up getting in trouble for bothering him.  Sometimes we just like to bother Justin and we get in trouble but if he brothers us he never gets in trouble because he has ADHD. This makes me wonder if kids bother him at school and if he has any friends that are nice to him because I don’t know what I would do at school without all my friends. Sometimes I wonder how he feels about his disability and what problems he has everyday with kids at school making fun of him because he is a little slower than them at math and reading. Justin is nine so I’m not sure he understands that he has a disability yet but eventually he will. I think that every person no matter what age if they have a disability that they have everyday struggles with people not treating them the same as everybody else. I don’t think there is any reason to treat somebody differently just because they’re not the same as you because it’s not their fault they were born disabled and they can’t change that. I think the only time somebody with a disability should be treat differently is if it helps that person in some way. Like Justin’s teacher gives him fewer spelling words then the other kids each week, and he gets extra tutoring in math, most of the other kids in his class don’t get any of that special treatment. I think that type of special treatment where its helping the person is ok. But treating them differently because you think there weird, or stupid, or have some disease that’s not ok because they’re people too.

I believe God will help me because He’s the only one who can help me.  In church I went in there to praise the Lord.  I like church because I pray there.  I will be respectful in church.  God can help me to solve my autism.  My autism makes me angry; God helps me to find out what is going on.  He also can help me to lose weight.  I want to lose weight because I don’t want to get a heart attack. God will make me stronger.  God helps everybody with their problems.  He helps them with his power.

This I Believe–Cody

Posted by jefferson8 on 17th January 2008

I believe in a perfect world. I never could find one though in my house. It’s crazy. Nothing goes as planned and in the end it split my family. I have a mom, dad, brother, and cousin who lives with me and my sister moved to my grandpas.

A perfect life everyone has heard of, but never live. I am one of those people. I might be a kid, but I have already taken on a lot of responsibility. I clean when I get home from school, do homework, eat dinner, and go to bed. If that a perfect life then I am living it on the weekends stay home and listen to the drama that goes on at my house. The reason my sister moved is because her and my mom always fight about everything. They made a little problem a big deal.

Drama is the biggest thing that goes on in my house we all love each other but we just can’t get along or it could be we all are just very different things an example is we all can never find anything to eat that we all like.

As you can see that my house is crazy and this essay was not all about me its not just one person who makes your life hard it can be but I learned to such it up and just live life because if you just get mad all the time things will just get tougher but at School I am the kid who makes all the kids laugh but in the end I am just hiding the fact my life outside of school is hard

Know I understand why a perfect is so hard to got because no matter how hard it is to get there your already there everyone has a different one and it’s not just about money and cars but about being with the ones  you love and that’s all that matters.
